In this conversation, I’m joined by Claire Halfpenny, one of the therapists working with ACEDS, for an open and thoughtful discussion about therapy, self-understanding, and recovery. Claire is a BACP registered integrative therapist (MBACP) with experience supporting clients experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, disordered eating, and body image struggles. In this conversation, we explore how therapy can help people unpack the different layers of their experience — the thoughts, emotions, relational patterns, and past experiences that shape how they feel about themselves and their bodies. A central part of our discussion focuses on the therapeutic relationship. Claire shares why she believes that feeling safe, understood, and supported is not just helpful, but foundational to change. We talk about what it means to create a space where people can explore difficult feelings without judgement, and how trust within therapy can allow deeper work to unfold over time. We also reflect on the complexity of eating disorders and body image difficulties — how they often sit alongside anxiety, perfectionism, shame, and trauma — and why an integrative approach allows therapy to be tailored to the individual rather than following a rigid model. Claire speaks about her experience working both in private practice and within an eating disorders charity and low-cost counselling service, and how this has shaped her understanding of recovery across different contexts. This conversation offers a grounded look at what therapy can really feel like: not quick fixes, but a process of exploration, compassion, and building insight at a pace that feels safe. If you’re considering therapy with ACEDS and would like to talk things through before deciding anything, we offer a free enquiry call. It’s a gentle, no-pressure space to ask questions and explore what support might look like for you. 🌿 Website: https://aceds.co.uk 🎥 YouTube: / @cliniconutrition 📞 Free enquiry call: https://calendly.com/aceds/30min
