I visited Chicago from Feb 8-10 1991. The primary reason for this trip was a Special Event at the Illinois Railway Museum, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the North Shore Electroliners. On Satuday the 9th I also made a complete round trip on the Ravenswood L line (today's Brown Line) Those two videos will be added shortly. This video includes the rest of the weekend's railfanning in and around Chicago. Friday Feb 8, 1991 1. A 2 car South Shore train arrives & departs the Shops station in Michigan City IN. Saturday Feb 9, 1991 2. A northbound Ravenswood L train arrives at the Kimball Terminal. 3. A Ravenswood train heads east across Francisco ave. 4. An 8 car train of vintage 6000 series cars heads west to the Kimball yard. Sunday Feb 10, 1991 5. A look around the Illinois Central's Woodcrest shops in Homewood IL. 6. An Iowa Interstate freight arrives at Burr Oak yard in Blue Island IL 7. Amtrak 366 crossing the 21st street bridge. 8. Looking north from the 18th st bridge, we see the Amtrak engine facilities & a BN commuter train round the curve at 14th st. 9. A southbound Amtrak from Milwaukee crosses North Canal st, on its way into Union Station, followed by a westbound Lake street L train passing overhead. 10. At the 18th st station on the IC, a crew working on the overhead wire, shares the tracks with southbound, and northbound Metra Electric commuters. 11. An eastbound CTA train crosses 54th ave in Cicero IL. 12. In Cicero, Burlington Northern SD-9s and switchers work the east end of Clyde yard. 13. An inbound Metra train departs the Cicero platform with the BN E unit pushing. 14. A southbound with a Grand Trunk caboose & BN switcher cross the Burlington on the BRC tracks east of the yard. 15. Still in Cicero, but farther west in the yard, an eastbound BN passes with one of their cabless B30-7s. 16. Back in Michigan City, a westbound South Shore train passes on 11th street, and departs the downtown stop.
