The Death Egg mk.II, which has surrounded the Little Planet, has a mini-stage of its own. It has no enemies and is largely an easy high speed run, with a little twist in that gravity is not always upright. The only time you can hit Metal Sonic is when he's just launched his gigantic Spirit Bomb looking move, when Eggman moves out of the way. Use a Rolling Combo to get in fast enough. Three hits will force the two to retreat. Some more stage comes after this, where they mess with the gravity a bit more, and Metal Sonic will then confront Sonic and Tails by himself. The music changes to this game's remix of Stardust Speedway's Bad Future theme (Japan and Europe version; remixed from Sonic Generations), and this one's actually pretty easy: It's a two-on-one fight. Sonic and Tails can activate the Rolling Combo and pretty much win by maintaining it. I don't know if this was supposed to be intentional or not, since this makes the race dead-easy. But in any case, this is the end of Metal Sonic for now, and Sonic proceeds to the core of the Death Egg mk.II in the final battle, coming up.
