MACS: Monitoring Action for Civic Space is a framework that monitors civic freedoms across EU countries. Its ultimate goal is to provide nuanced information to help civil society organisations and the EU respond to threats effectively and promptly. Zahari Iankov, Senior Legal Advisor at the Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law, explains how Bulgarian organisations pushed back against governmental pressures to restrict freedom of association and freedom of press in 2025.
