If you've had your eyes on our site for a while, you know we're big fans of Jeff Traugott's guitars, especially his versatile, OM-inspired Model Rs. This unusual long scale model has added depth and richness, and we just can't stop playing it. Jeff's long scale design evolved through various fan fret and baritone builds, eventually landing him on this standard pitch, short baritone-esque design with a 27" scale length and 15-fret neck join. The body dimensions are the same as his standard Model R, a comfortable 15-1/2" wide and 4-1/2" deep, with an identical bracing system, as well. He designed it so that the neck could potentially be replaced with a standard scale one. We can't imagine why anyone would want to do that, though. Whether you have it tuned to standard, in an alternate drop tuning, or lowered down a half step, the added scale length adds wonderful dynamic power, and draws even more tonal richness out of the owner-selected Brazilian rosewood and German spruce. The rounded C profile neck is comfortable to play, and the current set-up supports both fingerstyle and flatpicking well.
