This video presents a series of problems on the topic of Relativistic Energy in Special Relativity. Albert Einstein's theory of Special Relativity is one of the marvels of the 20th century. Its consequences and effects are very profound and its ideas affect not only the subject of Physics but many other areas of science and technology. The idea of relativistic energy has its origins in conserved quantities such as total energy and momentum in classical Physics. The idea of rest energy is introduced which is an energy possessed by every object with a mass even when it is at rest. So, the rest energy is an invariant quantity. But momentum in relativity is redefined because of variation of inertial mass with velocity. Accordingly, the expression for relativistic energy and relativistic kinetic energy are redefined taking into account the rest energy. The fact that the E and momentum are both conserved while the kinetic energy and velocity are not make these quantities more fundamental than the latter two. The expression connecting the total energy with momentum is hence a very important equation in Special Relativity. Using these expressions and the idea of rest energy, a wide variety of problems on the topic of relativistic energy are solved explaining all the steps leading to the solution. On this channel. we have posted a series of videos on the topic of Special Relativity under various sub topics. Further to these lecture videos, we have posted a series of problem solving videos on various topics of Special Relativity. These videos are made with the sincere hope that students pursuing Physics at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels may benefit by solving as many problems as possible on these topics to strengthen their understanding of various topics. Needless to mention that the viewers are expected not just to watch the videos but actively participate in the exercise of solving problems on the topic. They can always go through the videos to verify whether they are doing it right. The problems are solved in such a manner as to help the students to understand each step. along the way to arriving at the solution. Some of the viewers may be familiar with the steps and may even find that the problems are explained in a much too detailed way. But the idea behind this approach is to help even those viewers that are new to the topic and not used to solving problems in Physics. Nevertheless, the problems chosen vary in gradation of difficulty levels from that of a novice to that of an expert. It is believed that the work and effort behind the making of these videos shall be appreciated by at least a few who are truly passionate in learning various fascinating aspects of Physics through problems.
