The Bhukailash Temple in Tandur is a modern temple, built and opened in 2010 after nine years of construction, a project driven by the dedication of local Shiva devotees Vasu Pavar Nayak and his brother Shankar Pawar Naik. History of the Temple The history of the Bhukailash Temple in Tandur is rooted in the personal devotion of Vasu Pavar Nayak, a resident of Antaram Tanda. Inspiration: After spending four years in service at the Pashupatinath temple in Nepal, Vasupavarnayak was inspired to construct a similar Shiva temple in his own hometown. Construction: He shared his vision with his brother, and together they started the construction project in 2001. The construction was funded by 50% of their real estate business income, supplemented by donations from other contributors. Completion: The temple, which covers an area of more than five acres, was completed after nine years of work and opened to devotees in 2010. The temple is known for its unique design and spiritual atmosphere, often referred to as a "water theme temple". Dwadasha Jyotirlingas: A key attraction is an underground chamber where devotees can walk through water to perform abhishekam on twelve small Shiva lingams representing the Dwadasha Jyotirlingas. Statues: The complex features a 65-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva and a 35-foot-tall statue of Lord Hanuman. Temple Complex: The temple sits on the bank of a large holy bath (Pushkarani) and includes several other shrines dedicated to various deities such as Lord Ganesha, Sai Baba, and Goddess Kalika Devi. Community Services: The temple management also engages in philanthropic activities, including daily annadanam (free food distribution), organizing marriages for impoverished couples, and providing financial aid to students.
