Are you ready to sound more like a native English speaker by improving your pronunciation? The sounds that P and F make in English can be easily confused by non-native speakers, which is why this lesson is here to teach correct pronunciation and provide practice tips. In today’s English lesson you will learn the differences in pronunciation between the P and F sounds in English. Through clear instructions and examples you will learn how to shape your mouth, and where to put your lips and teeth to pronounce these two different sounds. You will also learn how to test where your air is coming from when you have the correct pronunciation of each by using a piece a paper or your hand. Next, you will look at some minimal pairs in English using the P and F sounds. We will practice the differences between P and F at the beginning of words in minimal pairs such as: Pan vs Fan, Pat vs Fat, Pork vs Fork, Pin vs Fin. Then we will work on pronouncing minimal pairs in the middle of words such as: Copy vs Coffee, Depends vs Defends, Suffer vs Supper. After that we will practice P and F minimal pairs at the ends of words such as: Cough vs Cop, Laugh vs Lap, Chief vs Cheap. Near the end of the lesson, you will be challenged to extra P and F pronunciation practice by learning some useful tongue twisters to improve your pronunciation. The first tongue twister just focuses on P: ‘Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.’ The next tongue twister just focuses on F: ‘Five fuzzy French frogs frolicked through the fields in France.’ This is followed by a very short tongue twister to help with both P and F pronunciation together: ‘Frank’s peers feared pranks.’ Finally the ultimate F and P pronunciation challenge tongue twister: ‘Give papa a cup of proper coffee in a copper coffee pot.’ If you follow all the tips from today’s English lesson and practice these pronunciation points for F and P, you will sound more like a native English speaker!
