Transformed By Grace – Episode 395: “Tithing Under the Law: Leviticus and Numbers” Part 2 from the series Right on the Money. Many Christians today struggle with guilt and shame around giving due to modern tithing teachings that misapply Old Testament principles. When we examine what the Bible actually teaches about tithing, we discover a system far more complex than the commonly taught 10% requirement. Biblical scholars estimate that Israelites gave between 20-30% annually when combining all required tithes, with some calculations showing 14 tithes over seven years. The biblical tithe system was specifically designed to support the priests and Levites who received no land inheritance in Israel. According to Numbers 18:20-28, God established tithes as wages for their full-time service in the tabernacle, not as charity. Importantly, only agricultural products grown within the promised land could be tithed - crops, fruits, and livestock. Only Jewish farmers and ranchers living in the promised land were required to tithe, while other professions like carpenters, fishermen, and tent makers were exempt. Remarkably, Jewish rabbis today recognize that biblical tithing cannot be practiced without the proper temple system, Levites, and priests in place. When Jesus addressed tithing in Matthew 23:23, He was speaking to Jews still under Mosaic law. Modern applications of Old Testament tithing laws to Christians create bondage, misapply Scripture, and generate guilt instead of joy in giving. Under grace, believers are free from tithing laws and called to give from hearts of gratitude and love rather than compulsion or religious obligation. #TransformedByGrace #tithe #tithingtruth #tithes #notunderthelaw #rightlydividing #graceteaching For more information about Transformed By Grace, including a list of TV stations where the program airs, visit https://www.bereanbiblesociety.org/tr...
