Il più bel nome, for solo violin, by Víctor Estapé Sara Rojo Alpiste, violin Barcelona, November 20th 2025 “Il più bel nome” is my fourth work for solo violin, following the three I wrote in a fruitful collaboration with violinist and composer Òscar Vilaprinyó (“Betrübte Einsamkeit” (   • Betrübte Einsamkeit for solo violin, by Ví...  ), “Tientos” (   • Tientos for Solo Violin (2017) by Víctor E...  ) and “Vol de Nit” (   • Vol de Nit (Night Flight) for solo violin,...  ). Òscar has advised and helped me with the composition for solo violin, as always, but this time I am delighted that this work has been performed by Sara Rojo Aliste, an excellent violinist and a very sensitive musician. "Il più bel nome" (The Most Beautiful Name) is the title of an opera by Antonio Caldara (the first Italian opera to be performed in Barcelona, in 1708, as part of the celebrations for the marriage between the future Austrian Emperor Charles of Habsburg and Elisabeth Christine of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel). The reason for choosing this title is to give a nod to classical compositions for solo violin by composers such as Bach, Paganini and Ysaÿe, taking Paganini's “Nel cor più non mi sento” as an example, but apart from that, my work has no connection with Caldara’s opera. My new work for solo violin was composed back in 2022, and I am very happy to be able to present it in a superb performance.
