Singaraja Bali Snippets: A Stroll Through Singaraja's Coastline Kampungs​ These are short walking videos on the city of Singaraja, Bali. The idea for these videos of Singaraja was to document the city as it exists today, as a geographical/cultural location in a specific time and space. Why? Because that's what interests me as an anthropologist. And, it is what I think my children and grandchildren will be interested in years in the future when the city has changed and when the residents of that period are no longer around. Today we start off in my kampung as usual and head west through Kampung Bugis and Kampung Anyar and end up in Kaliuntu. Fishing is the predominant occupation, although many of the men have other part-time work. Many of the women have small warungs to bring in additional income. Economically, this section of Singaraja is low income. Some kampungs are predominantly Muslim, others are mixed or predominantly Hindu. Today's video is the first part of a two-hour walk that I took today through some of the backstreets of Singaraja closest to home. In the next video we'll head inland to wander around Kaliuntu and see what we can find there.
