Let your health shine with TCM Time! What is the mind? Kathy Yang answers this question from a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective. Learn how to make better, more balanced decisions approaching with tips from: 1) Science; 2) Chinese culture; 3) TCM 5 elements theory. Scientifically, we know that the brain plays a major role in the mind. Analyzing the structure of the brain, Kathy points out the outer part of the brain (i.e. cerebral cortex) and the center of the brain (i.e. limbic system). She explains how the cerebral cortex connects with our conscious mind and thinking, and the limbic system connects with our subconsious mind and feelings. From a Chinese cultural perspective, in Chinese Qigong, we are said to have two minds: a monkey mind and a horse mind. Kathy describes the monkey mind as the emotional mind, which is known as xīn (心) (heart) in Chinese. The horse mind is described as the wisdom mind, which is known as yì (意) (intellect) in Chinese. Lastly, Kathy presents the mind from a Chinese medicine perspective. In TCM, there are 5 organ systems which are said to be connected with 5 different emotions and 5 different mental capacities (psycho-spiritual aspects). These are: Heart - joy (xǐ, 喜) and shén (神) (mind or spirit) Lungs - sadness (bēi, 悲) and pò (魄) (corporeal soul) Liver - anger (nù, 怒) and hún (魂) (ethereal soul) Spleen - worry, pensiveness (sī, 思) and yì (意) (intellect, reason, logic) Kidneys - fear (kǒng, 恐) and zhì (志) (willpower). --- Discover Traditional Chinese Medicine with Kathy Yang in her online courses, workshops, private lessons and consultations in Medical Qigong and Tai Chi HERE: https://tcmtime.com/ If you enjoyed this video, remember to like, share and subscribe to TCM Time Channel for more videos HERE: / tcmtime For the latest news and announcements, subscribe to TCM Time newsletter HERE: https://tcmtime.com/subscribe/ Like "TCM Time" on Facebook HERE: / tcm-time-112420353662445 Follow "TCM Time" on Instagram HERE: / tcmtime Submit your questions for future videos: https://tcmtime.com/free-content/#tcm... --- Recommended resources: Dao De Jing by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming | YMAA https://ymaa.com/publishing/book/dao-...
