In this video, Cecil Young and I are exploring a forgotten cemetery deep in the woods on a Wildlife Management Area. Known as Mt. Avery or Mt. Airy, this site used to be home to a church. Historic aerial photography shows the church still standing in the 1950s, but by the 1970s, it had disappeared, leaving only the cemetery behind. One of the most surprising discoveries is how recent many of the graves are, with one as late as the 1980s. We wade through thick overgrowth and thorns to document all we can find in one of the most forgotten and overgrown cemeteries we’ve ever visited.
