Coming up, we travel back to 1979, a year packed with iconic moments in music! From a Disco song that Blondie wrote as a joke that pissed off their fans when it went to #1, to a song by Journey that Steve Perry wrote right after he watched his girlfriend cheating right in front of him, to the Knack, a rookie rock band that Killed Disco Dead when the biggest hit of the year but fell flat on their face soon after... never heard from again, to a song by ELO that contains one of the greatest misheard lyrics ever and it came from the genius singer shouting nonsense as a filler word only to find out later that it was a real word and had deep meaning. Up next ground-breaking hits from punk & new wave pioneers, and tracks that are still classic rock radio staples today. It was an eclectic year in rock history and we're putting it under the microscope next with special guests on Professor of Rock. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Executive Producer Brandon Fugal Honorary Producers Elizabeth Kohll, Sounding Bored, Michele M., Tim Coffey, Aloysius Jr Alday ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out my Hand Picked Selection Below Professor's Store Van Halen OU812 Vinyl Album https://amzn.to/3tLsII2 The 80s Collection https://amzn.to/3mAekOq 100 Best Selling Albums https://amzn.to/3h3qZX9 Ultimate History of 80s Teen Movie https://amzn.to/3ifjdKQ 80s to 90s VHS Video Cover Art https://amzn.to/2QXzmIX Totally Awesome 80s A Lexicon https://amzn.to/3h4ilrk Best In Ear Headphones (I Use These Every Day) https://amzn.to/2ZcTlIl ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check Out The Professor of Rock Merch Store -http://bit.ly/ProfessorMerch ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check Out Patron Benefits http://bit.ly/ProfessorofRockVIPFan Help out the Channel by purchasing your albums through our links! Led Zeppelin released In Through the Out Door, their final album before John Bonham’s tragic death, marking the end of one of rock’s greatest bands. Our countdown of the Top 10 Songs of 1979 begins with a little “Lovin,’ Touchin,’ and Squeezin’ with Steve Perry & Journey at #10: Steve Perry was a hurtin’ fool when he wrote “Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin.” He penned the song after witnessing his girlfriend getting out of a Corvette and giving the driver a long, passionate kiss goodbye. It was obvious that she was cheating on him, and needless to say, it tore him up inside. Neil Schon & I talked about the making of this great song. Journey’s “Lovin, Touching, Squeezin,” peaked at #16 on the Hot 100, and #12 in Canada. We’re gonna keep on truckin’ with our Top 10 Songs of ’79 countdown. Coming in at #9 is a tune by an artist whose life was cut short when she was only 45 years old. It’s the late Nicollete Larson with “Lotta Love.” The diminutive Nicolette had such a beautiful voice. Her breakthrough came when she opened for Joan Baez in the mid-70s. She was only 5 ft tall, but she could deliver a lot of power. Nicolette’s peers adored her, and she was asked to sing with many superstars on their records, such as the Doobie Brothers, Christoper Cross, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt,. In fact, it was Linda who nudged Nicolette into recording “Lotta Love,” the track that became her biggest claim to fame. “Lotta Love” could’ve easily wound up in the trash, never to be recorded by ANYONE! It came close, literally being picked up from a floorboard. Nicolette always traced the origins of her biggest hit back to one fateful moment—with Neil Young. In the late ‘70s, she was not only singing backup on American Stars 'n Bars, but she had also formed a close personal relationship with..
