Written by Bob Gaudio. Produced by Bob Gaudio and Frankie Valli. Hailing from Arkansas, Dee moved to Chicago in 1941. Having sang with a couple of groups, Dee began his solo career on the VJ label subsidiary, Falcon/Abner in 1957. He first charted with his own composition, “Nobody But You” in 1958.By 1960, he was with the main label, VJ, where he enjoyed his biggest success, the #2 charting “Raindrops” in 1961. When Vee Jay folded, he switched to Constellation, a label founded by former Vee Jay President, Ewart G. Abner Jr. All in all, Dee had ten Hot-100 hits between 1958-63 and then a late UK hit with “Ride A White Horse” in 1975. He passed in December 1990, at the all-too-young age of 52. Bob Gaudio and Frankie Valli only acted together as producers on a handful of recordings in the early 60s, one of which was another version of “Come Closer” by Jackie Hill.
