The Western Balkans Youth Orchestra, led by Desar Sulejmani, features young composers from the region and abroad. Here is a live recording from the orchestra concert at the remarkable Synagogue of Novi Sad as part of the WBYO orchestra residency and concert tour "Western Balkans Go Pop & Rock" July - August 2024 The Arrangement of Oj Dada Sale, related to the Verses of the original song by Fiskinët, a Kosovo Rock band, was composed by the young German percussionist and composer Maximilian Kilchert (* 2003). His challenge was interpreting music and language that was not part of his cultural background. Therefore, he tried not explicitly featuring the lyrics but keeping some of their meaning. The first two parts contain the Melody in the Woodwinds and a chordal Base through the String section. Many melodic Variations from the recording are transcribed individually to capture a fine-resolution song image. However, he left enough space for his ideas and small melodic lines. The second part is built similarly but is broader and fuller this time. The focus was on creating a guitar or çifteli-like texture. Kilchert tried to use the sound of open strings on violin, viola, and cello (harp in the first part) in combination with pizzicato to gain the full sound spectrum of the instruments. Contrast follows in the third part, which is less rhythmical, dreamier, spherical, and like landscape painting. The Interlude consists of an original string line, a Ravel-inspired transcription of the live solo of Fiskinëts's guitar player, and a percussion part Kilchert found in an alternate recording. He recreated it almost identically. A new rhythm evolves, and the melody returns in a more euphoric but robust light. In the end, it escalates to a first climax. Being different from the rest of the arrangement, the last verse has an unsettling quality. I dealt with the double meaning of "djallin" (devil) and djalin (boy). Not knowing what the last phrase could mean, “Look at the boy/devil who kills you”, the piece ends questioning, not answering.
