SHAFI KHAN DHADHI - Village Bodhera, Tehsil Sardarshehar, District Churu Aged 76yrs, Shafi Khan Dhadhi belongs to the Muslim Dhadhi community but performs for the Hindu community. He specializes in rendering ‘Jamma’ (All night jaagran of folk deity Ramdevji). The beauty of his performance lies in the enactment and facial expressions using his turban and tandoora. He is one of the very few artists of Jamma. This performing art is near to extinction as there are not many artists who can perform this. Due to old age and a lung disease, it is difficult for him to perform the same way as he could do in his earlier days. Shafi Khan started learning Jamma at an age of 12years from his Guru Chimandas Kamad. He lived with his guru for 3 years to learn the art. At the age of 20 – 25yrs, he started performing on his own. He specializes in jamma but in addition to jamma, he can sing bhajan/satsang of Kabir and Saint Bannanathji.
