National Lift Tower in Northampton (formally Express Lifts) - Sept 2010

A drive around the outside of the tower and surrounding roads. The lift shaft footage at the end is from the high rise lift inside the tower. Original footage from "the secret life of (lifts)" series by Tim Hunkin.    • Secret Life of Lifts series,Part 2/3: Expr...   Built in 1978, this building had remained derelict when Otis bought 'The Express Lift Company' in 1997. The tower and land was sold to local homes company, but was difficult to demolish due to the very close proximity of the new homes built around it. December 2009 it was renamed "The National Lift Tower" and it's being prepared to reopen after £1 million was spent on it's restoration. A local college is running engineering courses, although this is currently at an early stage. Obviously, I would love to take a look around inside here!
