Shimla railway station is the terminus of the narrow-gauge Kalka–Shimla Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. History: The railway was built to provide a more accessible route to Shimla, which had been the summer capital of British India since 1864. Construction: The line was constructed between 1898 and 1903. Location: Shimla station is the final stop on the line, situated at an altitude of 2,075 meters (6,808 ft). Features: The line is famous for its 95.66 km length, 103 tunnels, 864 bridges, and steep ruling gradient of 1:33 or 3%. The station itself is equipped with basic passenger facilities like ticket counters and waiting rooms.
