The spatial audio field is rapidly evolving, unlocking expansive creative territories for artists while for audiences it allows new forms of collective experiences to emerge. As compositions travel across venues and systems, questions arise about how spatial intent is preserved. This presentation draws on ongoing research within the SANE project, to explore how differences in speaker setups and rendering strategies shape spatial perception and how they can be measured. The presented results depict an initial pilot experiment within the network, conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) in Graz. SANE is a collaborative project between artists, venues, and audio technologists, which envisions a standardized streaming infrastructure to safeguard spatial integrity. About Konstantin Fontaine (b.1996) is an audio technologist, programmer and sound artist, specializing in virtual acoustics, spatial audio signal processing, and sonic arts. He studied audio communication and technology at TU Berlin, where he currently holds a position as research fellow in the Department of Engineering Acoustics focusing on virtual environments and binaural rendering. As part of ZiMMT in Leipzig he is responsible for technical aspects and curatorial work, while his research there explores spatial audio for various artistic and applied purposes. With a focus on his artistic background, he particularly explores generative approaches and algorithmic systems, with works exhibited at multiple institutions, such as Humboldt Forum Berlin, ZiMMT Leipzig and Documenta Kassel. The video was created as part of the RAUM+KLANG Spatial Audio Network Conference, an event for knowledge transfer and networking at the intersection of music technology, audio engineering, XR development, and the cultural industry. Leading experts, pioneers, and visionaries came together to rethink the future of immersive audio technologies and set groundbreaking trends. The conference is partly funded by the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB) and the City of Leipzig Office for Economic Development.
