VIDEO Slideshow (+ Pics from the video) Pave & Widen East Drinker Street circa 1938 - 1939. INFO from my good friend & classmate Michael J. Williams who is with the Dunmore Historical Society : "Plans to repave and widen Drinker Street began in 1938 as part of a WPA plan to repave most streets in the borough. At that time local papers took extensive photos of the Drinker Street portion of the project. The project was officially completed in August 1939. " This is how I came upon these photos. Back in 1992 my friend John Pugliese said someone came into his dad's shop: Nick's Better Shoe Repair on East Drinker street. He bought some furniture. Inside was an envelope with about 34 photos. He let Nick Pugliese borrow them for a few weeks to look at. John asked me to videotape the photos before giving them back (today we'd simply scan them!). So, this is a just under 10-minute video of the slideshow. No audio. I simply panned around each photo. To me it appears we start towards the top of East Drinker where Al's Quick Stop gas station is now, and going down the road to where Rum Runnerz bar is at the intersection with Smith Street.
