Watch Full Video -    • Irvine Spectrum Christmas & Light of the W...   In Today’s Kim’s adventure we head out to Irvine Spectrum to grab some Macaron’s at Honey and Butter Macarons. Leanne Pietrasinski made her first macaron in 2011, three years before she left school and decided to pursue baking. She initially made her macarons for events, and worked out of her kitchen for 3 years. In June 2014, Leanne and her husband Pawel set up their first Honey & Butter location at The Lab Antimall in Costa Mesa. The shop was inside of a stainless steel Airstream trailer which is a permanent fixture of the shopping center. They would sell hundreds of macarons a day, six days a week, rapidly becoming popular. They’ve adopted a weekly rotation of flavors, so customers can find something new there every time they visit. In addition they’re also known to have fun and interesting shapes such as animals, sushi and even pokemon characters. Over the years they’ve opened up several locations, but have permanently closed many of them except the one at Irvine Spectrum. Upon entering this cozy space, we were blasted by cute plushies and characters from floor to ceiling. Often times they’ll collaborate with brands, and in today’s visit it looks like they’ve partnered with line friends. Line friends are stickers invented by Kang Byeong Mok for the south korean messaging app “Line”. Classic Macarons typically cost about $2.50 but the price of a character macaron will be nearly double. Unfortunately there were no more character ones, which is fine by me because that means I pay less. Before leaving we decided to try a few. Dylan had the Milk and Honey, my mom ate the strawberry and Nolan had some mystery flavor he called Good. Contrary to Popular belief, Macarons actually originated in Italy and was introduced to France in 1533 and were called the priest’s bellybuttons. These snacks were primarily enjoyed by royalty until the empire fell in 1789, and two French sisters began selling them to commoners in the city of Nancy. The name then changed from priests bellybuttons to Macarons de Nancy. Today, macarons are enjoyed all over the world for their light and sweet outer shell, along with a filling of buttercream, jam or ganache. It’s known that this pastry is hard to master, but Honey & Butter have definitely perfected the art.
