Sara Lomax-Reese, president and general manager of WURD Radio, and Dr. James Peterson, Director of Africana Studies and Associate Professor of English at Lehigh University, speak with NBC-10's Vai Sikahema about WURD's Black Music Month 2015 panel discussion, WURD Speaks - Black Music Matters: The Blue-Eyed Soul Takeover? The panel topic - the ongoing practice of cultural appropriation of Black music by White performers - was tackled by a group of experts featuring DJ and producer Rich Medina; radio and music industry legend Dyana Williams (co-founder of Black Music Month); Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Carvin Haggins; and Dr. Peterson. Four times each year, WURD Radio presents the Walter P. Lomax, Jr., M.D. Speaker Series, an interactive community engagement series named for our founder. A native of Philadelphia, Dr. Lomax was a brilliant physician, entrepreneur and philanthropist who was devoted to uplifting and empowering the Black community.
