Bridging the gap between identity and culture, Anastasia Dmitrevskaya explores different philosophers’ perspectives on belonging and acceptance. In her talk, she reflects on her own experiences of moving between countries and cultures, examining how these shifts shape personal identity and influence the ways we connect with others. By weaving together philosophical insights and her own story, Anastasia highlights the universal search for understanding, connection, and a place to call home. Anastasia Dmitrevskaya is a student in the International Baccalaureate programme in Portugal who was born in Russia and lived there for the first ten years of her life before moving abroad. Although she has adapted to life in Portugal, she remains closely connected to her roots and returns to Russia every summer. In her free time, she enjoys creative hobbies such as drawing and crocheting, as well as running, reading, and watching educational videos, especially TED Talks. Her interest in speaking events began at her previous school, St Peter’s National Curriculum, where a similar event inspired her curiosity but felt too intimidating to join. After moving into the international system and seeing her friends organise this event, she felt more confident to take the opportunity and hopes the experience will help her grow more comfortable with public speaking while sharing her story. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
