Popular Gambian Journalist, and radio talk show host, Fatou Camara, discusses the reasons why she was forced to flee her native land, The Gambia. Currently exiled in America, Camara explained her past relationship with Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh and the circumstances that led to her being questioned and sent to jail. "We had a very good relationship. He sometimes called me his daughter," said Camara who was once President Jammeh's press secretary. Their relationship quickly deteriorated when Ms. Camara was charged with tarnishing the image of the President and arrested. "A lot of people are shocked that this man could put me in jail for 25 days," said Camara during the interview. She also expressed that this is nothing new in the Gambia and that she is aware of several other journalists jailed or killed for their reports. "We can't be living like this." she concluded.
