In our fourth summer drill-down, we figure out a the meaning of a word we may never have heard of by working step-by-step through the information that we do have. Who knew we could become so good at deciphering the meaning of new words! We are sharpening our reading skills: vocab, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summarising, and realising that we have the ability to figure things out when we use our brains and take it slowly and systematically. Are you practising this with your own books and having some fun? Why not rope in a friend or member of your family. Reading is above all for fun, and this active reading exercise will make your reading so much more interesting - as well as making your shine when answering comprehension questions. The next episode will be our last this summer. If you'd like more of these in September, give me a thumbs up and subscribe.
