"Wisdom Of A Fool" was the 4th of 10 songs Pauline Shepherd recorded for the Pye Nixa label on 78rpm between September 1955 and July 1957. She also recorded one 78 for Columbia and having failed to represent Britain in the 1957 Eurovision Song Contest (having lost out to Patricia Bredin) then decided that a change of career to acting might be more successful. Aged 19 Pauline became a TV hostess in the Roy Ward Dickson Rediffusion quiz 'Turnabout' in 1958, and started to appear in various films including 'Operation Cupid' (1960) in which she sang her own composition 'Take Your Time'. Other films included 'Marriage Of Convenience' 'Jackpot' and 'Mr.Topaze' , a Peter Sellers film which Sellers himself is believed to have had all copies taken out of public domain and destroyed. The British Film Institute has the only known copy. There were seven versions of "Wisdom Of A Fool" issued in the UK around February 1957 and honours go to Norman Wisdom as the only artist to take the song into the UK charts.
