An easygoing jazz tune, taking its time, collecting its thoughts, savoring a dusk drive. On this day in jazz history... Birth of Nina Simone, February 21, 1933 Eunice Kathleen Waymon was born on February 21, 1933, in Tryon, North Carolina, a small town that had no clear reason to produce one of jazz's most singular voices. She started playing piano before her feet could reach the pedals, absorbing gospel, spirituals, and classical music in equal measure. Her early goal was straightforward: become a concert pianist. Racial barriers closed that door. Nightclub work opened another. There, she fused jazz, blues, folk, and classical into something that didn't fit any existing category and didn't try to. That refusal to fit extended beyond music. "Mississippi Goddam" and "To Be Young, Gifted and Black" made her a defining voice of the Civil Rights Movement, whether the industry was comfortable with that or not. Her February 21 birthday marks the beginning of a career that expanded what jazz could say and who it could speak for. #ContemporaryJazz #JazzInstrumental #EveningDrive #ModernJazzGroove #LateNightJazz #OpenRoadVibes #instrumentalgroove All music (including AI-assisted elements) and visuals are original, curated, and produced by Two Cats Jazz Radio.
