A relaxed reggae–jazz groove with an easy flow and a light, sun-warmed feel. On this day in jazz history… Wilbur deParis Born January 11, 1900 Trombonist and bandleader Wilbur deParis was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Known for mixing Dixieland jazz with swing, deParis had an illustrious career working with Louis Armstrong (1937-1940) and Duke Ellington (November 1945-June 1947). He made his recording debut in 1928 with Leroy Smith. In 1951, deParis and his brother, trumpeter Sidney, formed the New New Orleans Jazz Band, securing an 11-year residency at Jimmy Ryan's in New York. The group accomplished his stated goal "to play as the early New Orleans masters would if they were alive today." Sponsored by the U.S. State Department, deParis toured Africa in 1957 as part of the President's International Program for Cultural Relations. His music appears in several Woody Allen films, including "In a Persian Market" in The Curse of the Jade Scorpion. #LateNightJazz #ReggaeJazz #JazzGroove #InstrumentalJazz #CoastalJazz #EasyListeningJazz #JazzPlaylist All music (including AI-assisted elements) and visuals are original, curated, and produced by Two Cats Jazz Radio.
