Hello, great to have you watching again! We’re kicking off the year and starting strong with a bit of beautiful France. Think picturesque villages, winding mountain roads and, of course, unpaved tracks in the Aude – because asphalt is honestly a bit boring anyway. But to be fair: home is at least as beautiful. Now that the leaves have fallen from the trees and bushes, Mo discovers a tiny little wren’s nest. So small you wonder whether the bird itself actually fits inside. One morning the sun really goes all out: grazing light hits the Pic du Midi station and two bright beams reflect as if someone briefly switched on a pair of searchlights. Meanwhile, Mo and her hole just keep going ;-) . The large hole in the hallway demands endless layers of plaster. What looks perfectly fine one day suddenly decides the next day that it would rather fall down. So off it comes and we start again. But good news: the hole is now almost completely flat and – perhaps even more importantly – white. In Erwinland, it’s time for a solar panel reorganisation. They were sitting on blocks, and Erwin decides that rails are really much better for solar yield. Not an unnecessary luxury, since we’re experiencing the coldest days of the year with temperatures down to -7°C. If you want to see more clever tips and tricks from Erwin, click @ernie-tech his YouTube channel full of technical fun. Tractor Iseki therefore gets wrapped up in an old horse blanket. Haute couture, but practical. Speaking of horses: Mo brings old Poupette up from the meadow. She helps her up by pushing her. Not 4x4, but 6x6 drive ;-) . In preparation for the arrival of our new horse Diego, Mo tackles the tack room. Since the move, everything had simply been dumped in there – a system that, surprisingly, turned out not to be sustainable. Rats and mice had already carried out their own reorganisation, but unfortunately this resulted in two rubbish bags full of broken items. Among the chaos we do find a cute little salt and pepper set, and on the wall we discover tins nailed up by the previous owners, filled with iron parts. Why? No idea. But in the end, the tack room is tidy, organised and cleaned up. We continue with more preparations for the new horse. In the arena we reinforce posts by pulling them outwards with the Land Rover winch, filling the inside with stones and compacting everything firmly. We also move the horses’ water on the stable platform out of the walkway, because when three chubby ones – Callas, Prisca and Diego – need to pass at the same time, it just gets too tight. And then, on January 5th, the moment arrives: Diego, our new horse, is delivered. His official name is Drodba du Bief. It’s quite a name – but no, not a beef steak. Bief is the village he comes from. The first nose-to-nose introductions with the other horses have mixed results, but today, five days later, Quarbonne and Callas are already happily standing with him. Tomorrow, Prisca and Poupette will join them. Want to see more of Diego? Click @PaardenVanMonique to Mo’s YouTube channel about horses. Thanks for watching and see you soon!
