This video is a glimpse of my recent journey to Shimoga, my maternal grandparents’ hometown, where I had gone to attend a family function. The road trip from Santacarte took us through beautiful routes via Perdur and Hebri, with a comforting breakfast stop at Hotel Sita Nadi. The highlight of the journey was driving through Agumbe Ghat, experiencing the 14 hairpin bends and breathtaking views. Every curve brought back nostalgic memories of childhood trips to my grandmother’s house. From Malnad specials to discovering a small town serving delicious pork with Valiya rice, visiting the lively Shimoga fish market, tasting amazing Mandi and Biryani at Taj Hotel, and finding the rare Ginnu (colostrum dessert)—this trip was truly a treat for the heart and soul. I also brought back some Shimoga favourites—fresh Venkatesh Mysore Pak, puffed laddus, sweet mangoes, traditional rice, fish, and beautiful bamboo wickerware. Travel always reminds me that food tastes even better when it’s mixed with memories. Hope you enjoy this journey. I’ll be back soon with new recipes from my kitchen ❤️
