In this episode, I take my stock KTM 390 Adventure and transform it into the ultimate machine for long-distance motorcycle travel! After returning to Guadalajara with all the gear and parts I picked up in Arizona, it's time to get my bike ready for my solo ride from Argentina to Alaska. I will be doing a number of upgrades, such as swapping out the plastic stock handguards and skid plate for much sturdier aluminum versions. A crash bar, rear luggage rack, and a complete luggage system also get installed, along with many other upgrades. I install a Garmin Zumo XT2 GPS, secured in place by a Touratech mount. For this I have to open up the headlight housing (which is a puzzle of different screws), connect the wires and install the mounts. Next, I install T-Rex handguards with BarkBusters wind deflectors, Double Take adventure mirrors, and handlebar risers for better off-road control. Since the clutch cable is now too short, I swap it out for one from a Royal Enfield Himalayan—an easy fix! Then, it's time to mount a heavy-duty skid plate and crash bars for extra protection on rough terrain. A high fender kit from Tusk replaces the stock front fender, preventing mud buildup on those unpredictable backroads. I also swap out the stock foot pegs for larger, level ones by Black Dog Cycle Works, giving me better control and comfort on long rides. Luggage is key for a trip like this, so I install the Mosko Moto Reckless 80 liter system, securing the harness with an optional mount called the "Gnoblin." After packing everything up, I realize I need even more space—so I add another 25 liter bag on top! Now, my KTM 390 Adventure is fully prepped and adventure-ready. The next step? Taking it on some test rides to make sure everything holds up before my epic journey from Patagonia to Alaska!
