An intimate portrait of Cowboy Curly, a longtime member of the Federation of Black Cowboys and owner of its stables in Jamaica, Queens. A Film by Joshua Charow Contact me: joshuacharow@gmail.com Follow me on instagram: / joshuacharow Raleigh W. Hall, known as Curly, grew up in the Jamaica, New York City Housing Projects. As a child, he found inspiration through programs such as the Police Athletic League track and field competitions, which gave young people the opportunity to pursue their ambitions. Because of the positive influences and opportunities he experienced growing up in the projects, Curly developed a strong desire to give back to underprivileged inner city youth. In his later years, he embraced the identity of a Cowboy and founded Curly's Cowboy Center. The center focuses on three distinctive subjects that highlight important history often left out of school textbooks: the Black Cowboy, the Indigenous Native American, and the history of Black enslaved people. The museum features artifacts and displays designed to enlighten visitors and spark curiosity about American history. The horses at Curly's Cowboy Center play an important role in supporting children’s mental and emotional well being. Curly's mission has led him to seek funding from a variety of sources to support outreach efforts and staff operations. The goal is to raise $50,000 for Curly's Cowboy Center to continue expanding the center’s impact. Volunteers are warmly welcomed to help advance the organization’s work. Supporters who would like to contribute toward the $50,000 goal may send donations through Cash App at $cowboycurly or through Zelle: RaleighwHall83@gmail.com.
