Aireen Omar, President of RedBeat Ventures - part of AirAsia Group, showed how investing in their digital services and skillsets prior to the pandemic allowed them to quickly transition to providing new business opportunities to their customers who had been affected and for their staff who had been severely impacted. Through her presentation Aireen points to the value of really understanding their customers' data to enable AirAsia to offer meaningful services - such as marketplaces for wholesalers and retailers whose physical trading locations had been closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic - and how they were able to diversify how they provided the core services, such as making the in-flight catering available for online orders while planes were grounded. Finally, she explains how AirAsia Group's evolution of the RedBeat Academy has enabled them to invest in staff development and a talent pipeline for AirAsia, as well as for the wider communities in which they work. This event, part of the Innovation Journeys 2020 series - co-produced by Imperial Business Partners and MIT's Industrial Liaison Program, with BT - was hosted by Michael Schrage, from MIT Sloan School of Management.
