The Message That Changes Lives Acts 2:14-41 | SENT: The Church God Designed | Week 4 www.thriveyork.com Youtube: "Thrive Church York" BIG IDEA: Same Spirit. Same Mission. Same Power. The gospel proclaimed in the power of the Spirit still has the power to cut hearts and change lives. WHO WAS IN THE CROWD? Many in this crowd had just been in Jerusalem seven weeks earlier some shouted "Hosanna!" on Palm Sunday — some shouted "Crucify Him!" five days later. THE MESSENGER — PETER STANDS UP (vv. 14-15) Seven weeks earlier, Peter SAT DOWN by a fire and denied Jesus three times. Now he STANDS UP in front of thousands and declares Jesus is Lord. What changed? The Holy Spirit. THE MESSAGE — JESUS IS LORD AND CHRIST (vv. 22-36) Peter builds his case in four movements: ATTESTED by God (v. 22) — proved through miracles, wonders, and signs DELIVERED by God's plan (v. 23) — the cross wasn't Plan B RAISED by God's power (v. 24) — death had no legal claim on a sinless man EXALTED to God's right hand (v. 36) — Lord = GOD | Christ = KING If Jesus is Lord, He has authority over you. If Jesus is Christ, He has a plan for you. The question isn't "Is Jesus Lord?" — He is. The question is: Is He YOUR Lord? THE RESPONSE — CUT TO THE HEART (vv. 37-41) Acts 2: Cut to the heart → "What shall we do?" → Repentance Acts 7: Cut to the heart → Gnashing teeth → Rage Same cutting. Two responses. The difference was the condition of the heart. THE ANSWER: Repent. Be baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit. THE RESULT: 3,000 souls added to the church in one day. THE ENEMY'S STRATEGY The accuser doesn't just want you to sin — he wants you to IDENTIFY with your sin. "That's who you are. That's your prison. Get comfortable." BUT THE GOSPEL SAYS: "Such WERE some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." — 1 Corinthians 6:11 WERE. Past tense. That WAS you. It's not anymore. THE QUESTION: The people at Pentecost didn't just hear the message — they responded. Jesus said: "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." (John 20:29) What prison has the accuser convinced you is your home? Repentance isn't punishment — it's the door swinging open. MEMORY VERSE: "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." — Acts 2:38 Join us for Week 4 of the Worship Challenge! The digital copy is on the Church APP
