'Behold the heart of the world! Progenitor of life, father and mother, alpha and omega! Our creator... and our destroyer.' I found the above Darkest Dungeon quote very fitting. More or less it described the Abyssal Colossus perfectly. I am guessing he was the final boss in the Decktamer (?) If not, he was still quite chunky. But lets not get ahead of ourselves. Yay, the Bell Rat was back this time. One of the top secondary monsters for sure. You can just keep juggling it and/or use it's armor related move. I could preserve more health this way. I liked what the Candy Ram had to offer. It had solid base stats of 4/6, the Delicious power for healing others, a basic attack move and basic skill for minor tanking and buffing another party member. The 3rd battle had some very interesting options available. I could pick either: Pachi with perfect stats and initial moves + the Monster Fusion reward or Tadwhale + the Special Foraging reward I picked the Tadwhale, even though the Pachi package was more consistent. I gambled a little here. If my gamble succeeded, I could have received a lot of value out of the Ascension move. All I needed now was finding any way to copy the Ascension move and there were still many fights and rewards left ahead of me. I also wanted to test out how good the special Berry can be. It could not only let me capture a monster, but the same monster would also be added to my hand directly, mid combat. The 4th battle featured groups of enemies who were surprisingly tough. The group that had the Great Abyssal Elk seemed very unrealistic to face. I would need to have either the Peacarp or a similar source of strong Weakness debuff, to even think about battling there. The other Tricadual Hyena group felt a lot more reasonable and featured more monsters I liked. I limited the damage taken as much as I could, by initially dropping a single monster per turn. Once the Hyena was damaged enough, I could capture it with the Meat food, followed by capturing the Tideweaver via my special item. The Hyena, The Tideweaver with a sleeping move and the Plant of Might were all excellent captures. The Plant can sometimes act as your win condition, if the stars align. The next 5th battle was probably the most important one. I also had to decide whether to evolve the Tadwhale or try to greed out by delaying its' evolution. I did not feel safe enough and picked the safer evolve option. The Skywhale was big enough to clear all the threats here, especially that annoying Iron Tail Salamander with 2 armor on it. I really wanted to 1 shot it if possible, but it was just outside my Hyena's attack range. I no longer needed my starter Glowtongue and sacrificed it. I could neither afford capturing the second Plant of Might nor afford the card slot for it. Just like I suspected, the game offered me a copying Ability - Hypersimulation. Too bad I could no longer use it at the maximum power, but it was still very useful. I used it to copy other moves, especially the Fruit of Growth and the Hypnocry. I had the potential to farm the fruits endlessly, but I struggled to find any fights left, where I could stall long enough. Interestingly, the game just kept giving me more synergies related to either Poisoning and/or lowering the enemy initiative. I ended up embracing these two tools given to me and loaded my Aberration with the respective Powers. Later on, I had to make a tough choice between either catching a monster with the Berserk ability or another one who had the Sonar ability. I value the Sonar ability very high. It not only can cancel the powers on almost every other opposing monster, but it also let me keep my own Powers, in case the enemy has the Sonar too. In the end, my Aberration end up with: Hypersimulation (utility) Strength Sucker (scaling) Caustic (scaling) Sonar (utility) Double injection (move) Curse of the Void move) The Abyssal Colossus' stats have exceeded my expectations. I thought it would maybe have 100 health and 10 initiative max. 200/20 looked way more threatening... but it started the fight asleep? Free turns are nice :) He had plenty of moves and I was not sure which one he would pick, on his next turn. To my surprise, he started with his limited healing move = another free turn. Suffice to say, my buffed monsters killed the Boss in no time. The cherry on top was my Sonar ability. It ended up canceling the Slumbering power of the boss. He was supposed to damage my party whenever he woke up. The damage part never happened. Sonar :) I liked this run a lot. I played it consistently well and without many big mistakes. Perhaps delaying evolving the Tadwhale was possible, if I had tried a little harder. I probably could have stalled later fights a bit longer, to get more value out of the Fruit of Might.
