Perhaps my greatest and most rewarding adventure in all of Ecuador, my solo journey to Chimborazo was not as hard as I thought it would be. Unlike most of my backpacking trips, everything just seemed to go right this time around. After a direct bus to the entrance of Chimborazo's National Park from its closest city for less than $3, I was granted permission at no cost to camp at the base of Ecuador's highest volcano with no hassle. As if everything wasn't already going perfectly, the first car that passed me on the road up the mountain scooped me up and out of the chilly alpine wind.
