Vincent Lopex started to sell arrangements to other bands in 1925, and generally ran his orchestra as a highly commercial business. A few months after the sale of arrangements started rolls under his name started to be issued by the American Piano Company. It's generally thought these were created by staff editors using band arrangements bought by Ampico - they credit Lopez as pianist but with 'Assisted' after his name. The very earliest rolls were assisted by 'EF' - Edgar Fairchild, head of popular music for Ampico. When the sale of arrangements was announced in Music Trades Review, they said the arrangements were being prepared by J Bodewalt Lampe, Lopez' head arranger. It's quite possible they were a product of others who worked in the organisation: one name suggested is Dominico Savino. When published in 1926 the composition was credited as music by Sherman Myers with lyrics by Chester Wallace - in reality British duo Montague Ewing and Harry Tilsey. In other words, not a single piece of the detail given was correct! Regardless of the complexities behind its creation, the resulting roll is superb. An original Ampico roll played on my Mason & Hamlin Ampico-B piano.
