Ritchie Humphreys joined Hartlepool in 2001 as a striker, 6 years later he is still carving out brilliant performances as a left back, after a stint as a left winger, right winger and central midfielder. He scored 3 goals in the first four games of the 96/97 season and was regarded as England's next big thing and partnered Michael Owen up from for England Under 21s but found himself down the pecking order due to arrival of Di Canio and Carbone and eventually decided to join Hartlepool. Humphreys could play at a much higher level but has decided to stay at Hartlepool ever since. Dutch legend Johan Cruyff described him as the "next Marco Van Basten" but we all know Humphreys is much better. Ritchie Humphreys also has the joint 3rd hardest shot of all time at 96mph, only David Hirst and David Beckham have recorded harder shots. David Trezeguet equals it but is classed as third as his shot was 0.015 mph harder (source: http://football.guardian.co.uk/thekno...) Ritchie Humphreys is only the second footballer this year to be honored by the Queen, the other being Steven Gerrard. The next thing that Ritchie should receive is the freedom of Hartlepool. This video shows some of Humphrey's best moments for Hartlepool.
