CATCH, SMILE AND RELEASE! The fishing has slowed a little on the lower Klamath River at Blake's Riffle — which is 4 miles from the Klamath mouth — as the fish have moved up river toward Strump Riffle — which is 14.5 miles up. We landed three Klamath Chrome Steelhead [Steelhead Fishing Video: • Bead fishing for STEELHEAD on Klamath Rive... ] and several fall run salmon. Both steelhead and salmon were caught, revived and released. We were Side Drifting with spinning gear. We use Lamiglas Infinity "The Twitch Rods" with Okuma ITX Carbon ITX-4000H Spinning Fishing Reels. Soft beads of choice: Western Fishing Operations (WFO) egg clusters or beads. On this trip we saw bald eagles, golden eagles, osprey, mergansers (fish eating ducks), blue herons and plenty of other wildlife. The river and water quality looked good. The CDFW fish counters sit in their white trucks at the boat ramp to take our data, mark our catch and releases and ask us questions about both salmon and steelhead we saw on the river. Fishing has been excellent from the Glen all the way past Blue Creek where boats are finding a good mix of jacks, adult kings, and adult steelhead. Fishing pressure has been light. The daily bag limit is two hatchery steelhead or hatchery trout per day on both the Klamath and Trinity rivers, with a possession limit of four. Anglers must have a Steelhead Report/Restoration Card in their possession while fishing for steelhead trout in anadromous waters. Both the Klamath and Trinity rivers are open to fishing, but take and possession of Chinook salmon is prohibited. You can't care about a watershed unless you're on the watershed The Klamath River is still healing from the dam(s) removal, but all signs point to more fish returning and spawning in the Klamath watershed in future years. This picnic area is on top of a high bluff with the best ocean view in Redwood National and State Parks. The commanding views of the ocean and the rocky coastline make it a popular spot for spotting whales and watching the sunset.
