We hope you enjoy it:) This song is meant to get at the heart of what it means to "act manfully" as it is described in St. Paul's letter to the Corinthians. It is also to depict the spiritual journey of the soul through the three ages of the interior life as described by many Catholic theologians: 1) the purgative way, 2) the illuminative way, and 3) the unitive way. Thus the song is broken by three passages of chant. One is the epistle of St. Peter warning us to be vigilant against evil (purgative), the second is the Te Deum, a hymn of praise as our focus shifts towards God as our end (illuminative), and the third is the In Manus Tuas, wherein we are so united to God that we can with a simple, loving gaze say, "into Your hands, I commend my spirit" (unitive). My brother arranged the piece. My family sang it. Please no bad language in the comments. We want this to be family friendly:) Lyrics: VIRILITER AGITE Viriliter agite 1 Cor 16:13 Act manfully Vigilate state in fide Stand fast in the faith Viriliter agite Act manfully Et confortamini And be comforted From the curse of our desolation Genesis 3:19 In our work we must find salvation Remember man that thou art dust Gen 3:19 In the yoke of the cross we trust (Chorus) The world’s pattern in our undoing Romans 12:2 Be reformed in your mind’s renewing Holy writ, the scholar’s plume Ignorance of the law is doom.
