This discussion is part of the two nation theory conversation. Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah is remembered for saying “What is this broken, moth-eaten Pakistan you have given me?” The realities were the other players in India were ruthless. Aftab Iqbal says we need to move past this question. He believes we have something that is better than nothing. Ayesha notes that nowadays our conversations are India-centric. Aftab notes that Nadim Modi is the probably modern Sardar Vallabhai Patel. Patel knew that Muslims would overwhelm India, and that is why they pushed for it. Modi is of the same mindset. Ayesha asks how can Pakistan and India move forward? Aftab notes they both cannot afford war given their nuclear capabilities. He posits that Pakistan and India should focus on improving themselves instead of fighting. They should compete by lowering their corruption index scores, increasing their GDP per capita, and competing in sports like Cricket. He states that both medias are hawkish, and we need to change this hawkish narrative to move forward. Ayesha finally asks about India’s work in Afghanistan as India is building things like hospitals and parliament in Afghanistan. Pakistan’s reaction should be to double their efforts if India sends one expert, we should send two. Afghanistan is a Muslim country that shares the same culture as are Pashtuns. We can prevent another Bangladesh situation.
