Hurricane Erin slams the Caribbean

Hurricane Erin has weakened to a category 3 storm after it brought heavy rains and tropical-storm force winds to several islands in the Atlantic, including the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Erin is the first Atlantic hurricane of 2025, and reached Category 5 status on Saturday with maximum sustained winds of 160 mph. While Erin is not expected to have a direct impact to the eastern coast of the United States, states like North Carolina are on alert do to a possible flooding risk that could affect the highways that connect North Carolina to the Outer Banks.
