Mount Emei (峨眉山) in winter is no joke — and I totally underestimated it! 🥶 Join me on this unreal winter adventure as I brave the freezing temperatures, heavy fog, and wild weather to reach the breathtaking Golden Summit at one of China's most sacred mountains! 🛕 Mount Emei is considered one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China, alongside Mount Wutai, Mount Jiuhua, and Mount Putuo. It's been a major pilgrimage site for over 2,000 years and is also the spiritual Home of Puxian (Samantabhadra) Bodhisattva 🐘🛕, the massive Golden Buddha statue at the summit, who represents practice and virtue in Buddhism. Often shown riding a white elephant — a sacred symbol of strength, wisdom, and compassion. 🌡️ Unbelievable Temperature Swings: 🏔️ Bottom of the mountain: 7°C ❄️ Golden Summit: -7°C!! The weather changes were absolutely wild — sudden spikes and freezing drops made it a true challenge. 🌫️ Expect Heavy Fog in Winter: If you're visiting Mount Emei in winter, brace yourself — Sichuan is known for thick fog during the cold season. Clear skies are rare, but the mist creates an atmospheric, mysterious beauty that you’ll only find here. 🔥 Must-Know Tips for Visiting Mount Emei in Winter: -Dress much warmer than you think you’ll need! I was underprepared and had to warm up by buying hot food, heat packs, and eggs from local shops. 🍜🍳 -Carry heat packs. Pop them into your pockets — absolute lifesavers in the bitter cold. 🔥 -Protect your shoes! I had to buy a shoe cover for 40 yuan — not cheap, but worth it to keep boots dry and prevent slipping on icy paths. 🥾 Wear shoe spikes (crampons). Get those shoe spikes that can be easily strapped over your shoes because it definitely lowers the risks of slipping and falling, especially if you have elderly travelling, it's best for their safety. Trust me, without them, you're almost guaranteed to have more than one slip. ❄️⚡ -Wear proper hiking shoes (or super comfy shoes with thick, cushy soles). You can wear your shoe spikes over them once you get to the snowy areas. -Use trekking poles if you can. They help you keep balance on tricky paths and make the climb way less tiring. -Take the departure ropeway by 4 PM latest! 🚡 I left at 4:30pm and ended up stuck in a 2-hour queue in freezing temperatures... there's a maximum capacity the ropeway can carry each time. Queuing in the extreme cold is no joke! Plan ahead and avoid this! Don’t forget there’s also the sightseeing bus to take again after getting off the ropeway back. -Prepare for sudden weather changes.Layer up, wear gloves, and bring waterproof gear. The mountain can turn on you fast. 📸 Scenic Spots: -Ancient temples hidden in the mist 🛕 -Peaceful pine forests and dreamy snow-covered paths 🌲❄️ -Viewing platforms (on clear days, you can even see the "Sea of Clouds" — an ocean of mist floating below!) ☁️ -Snow monkeys — but be careful! They’re known to snatch food or bags. 🐒 🍲🍡 Food Options: -Local food stalls are scattered along the way — lifesavers in the cold! You’ll find hot noodles, grilled skewers, steamed buns, and even hot eggs that you can slip into your pockets to warm your hands! 🍜🥚 Some shops sell ginger tea and hot soups to warm you from the inside out. It’s a bit pricier on the mountain, but trust me — worth every yuan when you're freezing! 🌟 At the Golden Summit (金顶): At the top, you’ll be greeted by the majestic Puxian Buddha (普贤菩萨) — a dazzling golden statue seated atop a four-faced white elephant. 🐘✨ Each face looks toward a different direction, symbolizing universal wisdom, virtue, and protection. Puxian Buddha represents compassion, moral conduct, and boundless kindness in Chinese Buddhism. 🥶 Underprepared but determined, frozen but inspired — this Mount Emei winter adventure was absolutely wild. Would I do it again? Maybe...? But probably in summer to finally catch those clear blue skies! 😆 00:00 - Private Car Into the Mountains 00:26 - Zero Kilometre Point 01:33 - Intro 01:38 - Pre-Climb Logistics 04:42 - Starting the Climb 08:25 - Views and Food Shops 11:30 - Ropeway to Summit 15:34 - Final Climb to Golden Summit 18:05 - Stunning Golden Summit & Puxian Buddha 20:26 - Reflections: Would I Come Again in Winter? 21:52 - Outro 👉🏼 Please subscribe to my channel and follow me on Instagram! 🔄 Subscription Link: / @moonlightparadise 📲 Follow me on Insta to see my stories and what I do on the daily: / moonshineparadise ☕ A coffee goes a long way and brightens up my day! https://www.buymeacoffee.com/moonligh... 🔎 RELEVANT HASHTAGS: #MountEmei #EmeiShan #冬季峨眉山 #ChinaTravel #VisitChina #TravelChina #WinterAdventure #WinterTravel #SnowyMountains #GoldenSummit #SichuanTravel #TravelVlog #AdventureVlog #EpicAdventure #NatureLovers #ScenicViews #SnowAdventure #ExtremeWeather #TravelTips #WinterWonderland #TravelAsia #ExploreTheWorld #HiddenGems #WinterEscape #ColdWeatherAdventure #BeautifulDestinations
