Esat Gül Def: Sami Hosseini Kamera: Serdar Narin Born in 1978, Ruşen Alkar started her music education during her high school years. After completing her bachelor’s degree at Dokuz Eylül University Music Education Department and her master’s degree on Music Theories she started her Ph.D. studies in the same university on Ethnomusicology. Alkar has presented her studies on Cultural Memory and Gender at various national and international music symposiums and also works as a music teacher. Alkar started taking stage in Turkey since 2005 with her compositions in rock form at various festivals and contests and during 2009-2012 she joined the Street Orchestra which is part of the Street Artists Association and sang at protests to defend animal and human rights. Alkar currently performs at various venues in Istanbul. Alkar has preferred to combine traditional Kurdish folk melodies with jazz, blues and funk forms and brings a new understanding to the “modern” singing of Kurdish music with her vocal style. In her Kurdish and Turkish compositions, Alkar combines the political conundrums of her home country with women’s perspective. Alkar combines the musical memory of the Kurdish geography where she was born with the technical possibilities of Western music and seeks to be integrated to the world music scene with her vocals and improvisations. http://www.rusenalkar.com/   / rusen.alkar
