Internal impingement is that pinchy, painful feeling on the back of your shoulder when you throw. It is very common in baseball athletes and can cause pain + decrease your velocity. I address shoulder impingement with a three step process: 1) Optimize soft tissue quality (improve pec, lat and subscap mobility) 2) Strengthen scapular muscles and rotator cuff (we need to build up the infraspinatus, supraspinatus, teres minor, serratus, rhomboids, mid/low trap etc so we can improve the quality of movement when throwing and decrease the pinchy feel) 3) Build a smart return to throw program (ramping back up quickly can lead to serious setbacks, we need a gradual return to throw) If you want to gain velocity in a healthy way, check out my MPH app! www.athletedocrehab.com/mphapp My app has a continually changing lifting program and arm care program to help you move better, throw harder, and become more explosive on the baseball field. My average client on the app has gained 3-5 MPH on their fastball, 4-6 MPH on their exit velo, and dropped 0.5 seconds off their 60yard dash time in a year. It's not a quick fix, but if you follow the plan and work hard, you'll see insane gains!
