This clockmaker recreates vintage clocks. Ernest Etheridge spent years as a master millwright. He retired to take an adventure in time. Now he’s a master clockmaker. In his woodshop in Tucker, Georgia he builds clocks from scratch. His specialty are vintage clocks from the 1920’s and 30s. New Haven Gingerbread and Ingraham Mantel Clocks - his new clocks look exactly like antiques old ones and often only an expert can tell the difference. 20 years ago, he started by buying a broken clock and fixing it. Then, he bought another one and fixed it. After a while he combined his love of woodworking with his love of clocks. Now he’s a master clockmaker. I asked Ernest what it takes to go from being a millwright, to being a clockmaker? He told me, “Ambition, know-how and a lot of tedious work.” The dozens of magnificently crafted clocks on his walls prove he’s right. I guess you could say that Ernest Etheridge really is a man with time on his hands. This story aired on WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News in 1975.
