But there's still more to do, so we won't stop until we've ended preventable blindness and visual impairment in the Pacific. About the Foundation: Like our founder, legendary Kiwi eye doctor Fred Hollows, we believe everyone should have access to high quality and affordable eye care. We support our partners to provide treatments for sight loss caused by diseases such as cataract and diabetes eye disease. In many cases a short 20-minute operation can restore sight, a dose of antibiotics can prevent blindness or simply a pair of spectacles is all that is needed. We support our partners to train local Pacific eye-health workers to provide services in their own communities. We also help to build and upgrade facilities, develop and introduce new technology, and provide vital equipment. Since we have been working in the Pacific, we have supported: Over 1 million consultations More than 81,000 sight-saving surgeries The opening of 7 clinics and many outreaches every year to assist people in hard to reach and remotes areas.
