Originally Recorded 9/6/2025 © 2025 Brandon Mendel | Reuse allowed with permission only TLDR: After almost a decade, I finally decided to come back to Paducah’s 1000 siren at Bridge Street. It was great. Enjoy the full novel below. This is actually my second attempt recording it this year. Back in July, the blower and rotator were dead. Local emergency management was onsite to confirm. While I wasn’t sure what went wrong, I had my doubts this would work. So on this second attempt I wasn’t really sure what would happen. It was either going to still be dead, fixed 100%, or -130d by something nearby. I parked closer assuming it was still partially dead. But when 1pm rolled around, this thing came back to life at full capacity. Not only does it work, but it sounds better than it did ten years ago! Looks like the chopper was also replaced at some point and the timing is also different. Either way, it still sounds awesome, and it’s nice they’ve kept this legacy siren in the system working for a bit longer for now. Sirens in McCracken County are tested on first Saturdays of the month at 1pm, weather permitting. Tests will get cancelled for excessive clouds and chances of rain. Check their facebook page if you plan to record here. Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!
