NSW Trainlink XPT Trains around the country regions of NSW.

This is a collection of videos of the NSW Trainlink XPT trains taken at various locations around regional NSW Australia. The XPT is a 40 year old Push Pull diesel locomotive hauled train used on NSW Trainlink services to Melbourne, Dubbo, Grafton, Casino and Brisbane. The XPT is based on the British Rail HST however the carriage stock used is different to the UK version with far more powerful air conditioning. A typical XPT train is made up of a sleeping car, 1st class carriage with buffet, 1st class carriages and economy class carriages. The maximum in service speed for the XPT is 160kph this was down rated from the original British HST trains that could do over 200kph. However due to the terrible alignments and steep grades of the NSW regional railway system speeds are often rarely much above 100kph. With XPT train journeys from Melbourne to Sydney taking over 11 hours and Sydney to Brisbane taking around 14 hours! In 2023 the XPT trains were due to be replaced with new rolling stock from CAF in Spain albeit without sleepers. However this has been delayed until around 2027. So there is still time to travel on the XPTs before they are retired. These videos were produced between 2016 and 2023. #nswtrainlink #xpt #hst
